Digital Wedding Invitation Wording for Every Indian Function — Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian

By the Ayozan team · · 10 min read

Indian wedding wording carries tradition in its opening lines — an invocation, the family names, the order of functions. This guide gives you ready wording for every major tradition, in formal, modern, and bilingual styles. Adapt any of it, and when you’re ready, personalize it for every guest on Ayozan. Any sample below becomes a free personalized card + video invitation on Ayozan — each guest gets their own name, in their own language.

1. Hindu wedding invitation wording

Formal: "॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥ With the blessings of the Almighty and our elders, we joyfully invite you to the wedding of [Bride], daughter of [Parents], with [Groom], son of [Parents]."

Modern: "Two families, one celebration. [Bride] & [Groom] are getting married — and it won’t be complete without you. [Date] · [Venue]."

Bilingual: "शुभ विवाह 💍 [Bride] weds [Groom]. आप सपरिवार सादर आमंत्रित हैं. [Date], [Venue]." Browse designs on the Hindu wedding cards page.

2. Muslim nikah / walima invitation wording

Arabic opener: "بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم — In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful."

Nikah: "By the grace of Allah, we request the honour of your presence at the Nikah ceremony of [Bride] with [Groom]. [Date] · [Venue]."

Walima: "You are cordially invited to the Walima reception hosted by [Family] in celebration of the marriage of [Bride] and [Groom]." Full wording in our guide to writing a nikah invitation card, with designs on the Muslim wedding cards page.

3. Sikh anand karaj wording

Gurmukhi + English: "ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ — With the blessings of Waheguru, [Family] invites you to the Anand Karaj of [Bride] and [Groom], to be solemnised at [Gurdwara]. [Date]."

Add the post-ceremony details — Ardas, langar, and reception. Designs on the Sikh wedding cards page.

4. Christian wedding invitation wording

South Indian / Anglo-Indian: "[Parents] request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter [Bride] to [Groom], solemnised at [Church] followed by reception at [Venue]. [Date]."

Scripture line (optional): "‘Love is patient, love is kind’ — 1 Corinthians 13:4."

5. Jain wedding wording

"णमोकार महामंत्र की मंगल भावना के साथ — With reverence to the Navkar Mahamantra, [Family] invites you to the wedding of [Bride] and [Groom]. [Date] · [Venue]."

6. Interfaith / civil ceremony wording

"Two traditions, one love. [Bride] and [Groom] invite you to celebrate their wedding — a coming together of families and faiths. [Date] · [Venue]." Keep invocations neutral and let both family names lead.

7. Multi-function suite wording (haldi → mehndi → sangeet → wedding → reception)

For the full sequence, give each function its own line with date, time, and dress note:

  • Haldi — [Date], morning, [Venue]. Wear yellow.
  • Mehndi — [Date], afternoon, [Venue].
  • Sangeet — [Date], evening, [Venue]. Dancing shoes on.
  • Wedding — [Date], [Muhurat/time], [Venue].
  • Reception — [Date], [Venue]. Dinner & celebration.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix two languages in one wedding invitation?
Yes. Bilingual wording (for example an English line with a Hindi or Gurmukhi blessing) is common and fully supported. On Ayozan you can type in English and have specific lines transliterated into the script you want, so a single card can carry both.
What invocation should I use for an interfaith wedding?
Keep it neutral and let both family names lead — for example "Two traditions, one love." You can include short blessings from both faiths if you wish, or omit invocations entirely for a civil-ceremony tone.
Do I have to type in Hindi, Urdu, or Gurmukhi myself?
No. Type your wording in English and Ayozan transliterates it into the correct script — Devanagari, Nastaliq, Gurmukhi, Tamil, and 30+ more — for each guest automatically. No language keyboard needed.
