How to Write a Nikah Invitation Card — Wording Examples in Urdu, Hindi, and English

By the Ayozan team · · 8 min read

A nikah invitation balances reverence and warmth — it opens with the name of Allah, names both families, and invites guests to a sacred contract and the celebration around it. This guide covers what to include and gives you copy-paste wording in Urdu (Nastaliq), Hindi, English, and bilingual, plus walima wording. Any sample below becomes a free personalized card + video invitation on Ayozan — each guest gets their own name, in their own language.

What a nikah invitation traditionally includes

  • The Bismillah opener.
  • The names of the bride and groom, and of both sets of parents.
  • Date, time, and venue of the nikah.
  • Walima (reception) details, if hosted.
  • An optional Qur’anic line or du‘a.

The Bismillah opener — options

Open with one of these and follow with your invitation line:

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Raheem
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Urdu nikah wording (Nastaliq + romanized)

بتاریخ [تاریخ] بمقام [مقام]۔

Aap ko [Bride] binte [Father] ke nikah ba-aqd [Groom] ibn [Father] mein ba-sad ehtraam mada’u kiya jata hai. Ba-tareekh [date], ba-maqaam [venue].

English nikah invitation wording

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
[Family] requests the honour of your presence at the Nikah of [Bride] with [Groom].
[Date] · [Time] · [Venue].

Bilingual (Urdu + English)

[Date] · [Venue]

Walima invitation wording

Adding family names correctly (bride’s side / groom’s side)

Convention names the bride as "[Name] binte [Father]" and the groom as "[Name] ibn [Father]". List both families with respect; for joint-hosted invitations, lead with the hosting family.

How Ayozan handles Urdu script (right-to-left, Nastaliq)

Urdu is right-to-left and renders in Nastaliq — easy to get wrong in generic design tools. Ayozan renders Urdu correctly RTL in proper Nastaliq, and transliterates from English so you don’t need an Urdu keyboard. Each guest’s name appears correctly in script on their own card. See designs on the Muslim wedding cards page, and broader wording in our Indian wedding invitation wording guide.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open a nikah invitation card?
Open with the Bismillah — "بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ" (In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful) — then follow with your invitation line naming the bride, groom, and families.
Can Ayozan render Urdu in Nastaliq, right-to-left?
Yes. Ayozan renders Urdu correctly right-to-left in proper Nastaliq script and transliterates from English, so you do not need an Urdu keyboard. Each guest’s name appears correctly in script on their own card.
What is the difference between a nikah and a walima invitation?
The nikah is the marriage ceremony itself; the walima is the reception hosted afterwards, traditionally by the groom’s family. Many invitations include both, each with its own date, time, and venue.
